Day 5 4th July 2013 South Hedland to Sherlock River Rest Area.

Day 5   4th July 2013  South Hedland to Sherlock River Rest Area.        135km

Another wonderful day of cycling followed by a refreshing swim in the Sherlock River.

As we left South Hedland the traffic was heavy with road trains and other traffic.  Fortunately the road trains turned down the inland highway leaving only the grey nomads and other smaller road trains.

Early on the ride was a little more difficult today as the wind blew across from our left.  However as the day continued the road turned to the west and the wind again blew from behind.

We saw our first range of hills today.  A welcome change from the relentless flat plains and low scrub of the first four days.
First real line of hills since leaving Broome five days ago

Sleeping under the stars again on the bank of Sherlock River. As I type this up I can smell dinner cooking on the BBQ.  All is well and all are having a terrific time.  There are a few with rather sore rear ends but other wise no bad fall from bikes.  Spirits are still high.

Camping on the banks of the Sherlock River.

Dinner time now..... .
Short day tomorrow. Only 98 Km then a rest day in Karratha.  Looking forward to that and a chance to get the washing done.
